The Donk — The Journey
Every product starts with a problem. This one started with a donkey squinting at a telly across a dark Brisbane pub. Here’s his journey from frustration to your table.
The Spark
Wednesday night at the local. The Donk squints at the telly across a dark, noisy pub. The blinds are up there somewhere — probably. He’s been doing this for twenty years and he still can’t read the screen from this side of the room. He reaches for his beer. Thinks for a second. “There’s gotta be a better way.” He doesn’t know it yet, but that’s the thought that changes everything.
The Blueprint
3am. The workbench is covered in blueprints, empty coffee cups, and tiny electronic bits he can’t quite name. The Donk reckons he can build a little round screen that sits right on the poker table and shows you everything you need to know. Blinds. Timer. The lot. “How hard can it be?” he mutters. There’s a second coffee mug on the bench. The Donk doesn’t drink coffee.
The Prototype
This is where we’re at, legend. Goggles on (crooked, obviously), soldering iron hot. Someone left it on again. The first prototype is glowing on the bench. A tiny round screen showing real blinds, real timer, real-time. The Donk can’t believe it actually works. He’s built this thing with his own hooves. Well — mostly his own hooves. It’s bloody beautiful.

The Test
Back to the pub, but this time The Donk’s got the prototype in his saddlebag. Puts it on his cards. Waits. Tries to look casual. One by one, the other players notice the little glowing screen. “Mate, is that showing the blinds?” The Donk tries to play it cool. He does not play it cool. Not even close.
The Factory
Hard hat on (backwards, obviously). Clipboard in hoof. The first real production run. Little glowing screens coming off the line, each one tested, boxed, and stamped with a tiny “D”. The Donk stands there watching them roll past. He’s not crying. It’s just dusty in here. Very dusty.
The Ship
Shipping day. The workshop looks like a post office exploded. Boxes packed, labels printed. Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth — Donks heading to every corner of the country. The Donk insists on personally inspecting each one. A pair of worn boots appear at the doorway, watching quietly. Someone’s proud too.
